Our unique blend of training and capacity-strengthening initiatives include
- The Civic Enabler—We can't overstate the role of civic organising in improving society's governance. Yet activists’ course of work presents numerous organisational and individual challenges. We bridge the gaps and connect the missing dots. Through training in organisational development, project management, knowledge management, storytelling, and digital resilience, we strengthen the capacity of organisations and individuals to carry out their impact work. We facilitate civic organising to thrive.
- The AFRAD School of Emerging Activists convenes emerging activists in higher learning institutions and established civic organisers to build the next generation of civic organisers by providing career transition and mentorship spaces. Whether their passion is to drive the agenda for gender equality and women’s empowerment, environmental and climate change mitigation and adaptation, democracy and good governance, quality education, or affordable healthcare, we equip them with the knowledge and tools to thrive. Of course, given our own story, it’s a space we understand very well. The idea of founding AFRAD was birthed in the 2018 Master of Arts in Gender Studies class at the Makerere University School of Women and Gender Studies. As Master's students, we had various skills and experience. We thought: ‘What if we started a platform to put to use our various skills, knowledge, and experience?’ With a single thought, AFRAD was born. So, we know that beautiful ideas are born in classrooms, but many die in the same classrooms. So, the AFRAD School of Emerging Activists provides the space to nurture civic ideas.
